The most popular explanation of Pete Best's leaving was that he didn't correspond to the group. So the Beatles joined Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkey), a drummer with another popular Merseyside outfit, Rory Storm & the Hurricanes. After being in the group for a few weeks Starr and other members recorded their first single, "Love me do"/"P.S. I love you". It was released in September 1962.
