Cool jazz and free jazz are two styles that owe a lot to the innovations of Gil Evans. In 1969, with the accessible and available electronic instruments, Gil Evans received an opportunity to truly revolutionize jazz, move it forward to places never visited before. He released Blues in Orbit that year, which was his first fusion of acoustic and electric instruments, which would lead to a 1974 Jimi Hendrix tribute and other projects in this style.
