About Marianne Faithfull
Broken English is by far Marianne Faithfull's definitive work. The 1979 album was described by the singer herself as a masterpiece. It signaled the departure of Marianne Faithfull from folk and country music to the opposite end on the scale, rock, punk and New Wave. The album included versions of a Shel Silverstein poem turned into a song, The Ballad of Lucy Jordan, the John Lennon classic Working Class Hero, which Faithfull still performs in concerts and other songs that inspired generations of musicians and musical style.
