About Ornette Coleman
Jazz musician Ornette Coleman is one of the most creative, thus also controversial, innovators of the music genre. Moving to Los Angeles in 1950 from his Texas home, Ornette Coleman had difficulty at times finding musicians to play with, as his concerns and emphases in the music were avant-garde, considered "off" by many. By the end of the decade he would already be widely held as a genius, leading the avant-garde jazz movement.
