Vocalist Michael Stipe has been the frontman and face of REM, the independent alternative rock band from Athens, Georgia. His features have been the band's as well. Both Stipe and REM were hard to fathom at first, looking and sounding a bit weird, certainly hard to decipher. But with time and albums released, Stipe and his band REM have become loved and admired across the boards, not only influencing but inspiring many bands around the world.
